debussy & chopin
in thinking about the kind of music that brings me joy and also makes me feel at home, i wanted to share a few of my favorite composers and pieces.
Claude Debussy was a French composer who wrote during the impressionist period (the late 1800s). his music reflects what i see when i look at claude monet’s paintings, which makes sense because they were at the peak of their careers during the same time.
debussy:
reflets dans l’eau (reflections in the water)
La fille aux cheveux de lin (the girl with the flaxen hair)
Deux arabesques, L. 66: No. 1 Andante con moto
Frederic Chopin was a Polish composer in the romantic period (mid- to late 1800s). His music is distinct and notable for its powerful dynamics and sudden change in tone, which bring a sense of drama and intensity. There are beautiful moments in certain pieces that sound completely separate from the overall piece but pull you in and make you feel emotions that words cannot describe. This is why I love playing Chopin.
chopin:
ballade no. 1 in g minor, op.23
nocturne in e-flat minor, op.9, no.2
etude in a-flat major, op.25, no.1 “aeolian harp”
